Of course, membership is optional and I will continue to put out the quality free content I've always produced. However, I do this for a living and have watched as my income from doing this has fallen. I may have to reduce the amount of content I put out to earn money outside of YouTube. This is a way that may help to avoid that and keep the free content coming.
If you are a long time viewer, please think about what you have gotten from watching my videos (and reading the website articles) over the years and if that is worth anything to you, in terms of education or even entertainment value.
If you are a new viewer, consider how things are changing here on YouTube and how more of what you will watch in the future will only appear to be free, as content creators turn to sponsors to make money. I think the best projects come from the passion and drive to produce something unique and useful, and not because you need to squeeze in another promotional spot.
